Zan Fairweather is a public policy researcher from Brisbane. He graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics, as the Economics Honours Medallist. He works as a researcher at the University of Chicago, designing incentives that channel private innovation toward problems that markets tend to neglect, such as novel treatments for neglected diseases and technologies to mitigate climate change. He was previously at the Reserve Bank of Australia, where he worked on policy research and regulatory reforms to address market failures in Australia’s financial system. Away from economics, Zan volunteers with the NSW SES as a Team Leader in the Alpine Search and Rescue Unit. With his Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship, Zan will read for an MSc in Economics for Development at Oxford, continuing work on shaping markets towards addressing pressing social challenges in global health and development, demographic change and automation. In the future, Zan hopes to progress to a PhD in Economics.
