Yifan Guo is a Melbourne mathematician, who holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne, with a major in Mathematics, and a concurrent diploma in Computing. Her research interest is algebra, in particular representation theory, which aims to better understand abstract algebraic objects by considering them as concrete matrices that are well understood. She is also keen to explore adjacent fields in mathematics. With her World Universities Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship, Yifan will undertake a Master of Advanced Study in Pure Mathematics at Cambridge. In the future she wants to pursue an academic career, where she can push the boundary of mathematical understanding through research, while supporting the next generation of mathematicians, especially young girls who share a passion for maths, through teaching and outreach. Yifan acts as a keen mentor to future mathematicians, through her university’s maths society and mentoring high school students in the Australian Maths Trust Olympiad program.
