Dr Grace Borchert is a junior doctor at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, currently completing a Master of Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) at the University of Sydney. She is also an Executive Director of the not-for-profit initiative ‘Ubuntu Through Health’ which supports health projects in developing countries. Grace holds a Doctor of Medicine, Bachelor of Medical Science and Bachelor of Biomedical Science (First Class) with the University Medal from Griffith University. Inspired by the humanitarian work of the late Fred Hollows, she is passionate about pursuing ophthalmology to restore sight and has undertaken placements with Lions Outback Vision, the Royal Flying Doctors Service and the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne. With her World Universities Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship, Grace will undertake a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Neurosciences at Oxford, focusing on gene therapy for macular degeneration. In the future Grace hopes to serve rural and remote communities and take sight-restoring treatment a step further.
